oops, i meant to put this on your allergy post :) anywho, oh my gosh, WENDY! i can so sympathize with you b/c the main frustration in my life is feeding sky! i can't even imagine having 3 kids to feed (not including you and mark!) where 2 of them have separate allergies/sensitivities.
i think your spreadsheet idea is awesome! i can't believe you did that! so how does the rotation diet work exactly? just curious why you are adding stuff back in - do you think their allergies have dimished? i wonder only b/c i've been on this same path with sky.
he definitely did great on the gf/cf-type diet (i think we did it for 1 1/2 years with him total), and then this summer we decided to ease up a little bit, just to see how he'd do. but now i think we are going to go back on the diet for him, or at least limit gluten again and switch to raw milk.
it's so hard to know what to do sometimes! not to mention the expense! yikes. do you have some good grocery stores available to you? i honestly don't know how you do it!!
Amy, the key has been not playing short-order cook! We all eat the same way (as far as sit-down meals go), and requires a very sacrificial and understanding husband! We're adding stuff back in simply b/c it's "technically" been long enough, that we "should" be able to add it back in, which we're all desperate for. The boys have really been feeling discouraged with having to miss out on so much. And it's not that we're not willing to draw that line and keep them from it if it's really not best for them. But at this point we don't know if it's that necessary, so we're just going to experiment a bit. And the EXPENSE!!! Our grocery budget is astronomical. A 12 oz. pkg. of rice spaghetti is almost $4. I pay $30 through Azure Standard for a 12-pk of rice milk. I don't know how that compares, but it sure adds up here! I do most of my food shopping at Costco, Azure Standard (mail-order), and Natural Pantry for the hard-to-find organic/allergy-free stuff, but I avoid that as much as possible due to prices! You're so right...it's very hard to know what to do. Get a goat for Sky to have fresh, raw milk...looking forward to that for us!
i actually mentioned getting a goat to andy the other day, as a joke - he was like, WHAT?! :) hee hee. yeah, being a short-order cook is definitely NOT the way to go! that's good that you all are eating the same thing. i do that, too, it's just frustrating sometimes having to plan meals around what sky will/can eat. and the expense here is bad, so i can imagine how much more it is for you guys! gf/allergy-free stuff is getting more mainstream, but definitely has a couple more years to go before things are reasonably priced. i always get depressed after a big grocery shop :) i really hope your boys don't have their food sensitivities anymore! what a relief that would be!!
